CAPE TOWN- South Africa is a unique country. It is not the Rainbow Nation for nothing. Very few countries on earth have the rich cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity that South Africa enjoys. The Venda, Tswane, Zulu, Pedi, Xhosa and many more form part of this rainbow nation. Few countries also celebrate cultural heritage, like South Africa. In South Africa, September 24th is an important day on our calendars as we celebrate our beautiful diversity. We are a unique Republic standing on Eleven Beautiful Feet.

In South Africa, we have a unique way to celebrate this day. Apart from dressing in colourful and vibrant attires, we spent the day with friends and families. One of the highlights is our delicious delicacies. We have some of the most nutritious and delicious foods you can find anywhere in the world –––– from the juicy braai meat to hot curry pots, not forgetting spicy potjie kos.

The history of Heritage Day goes way back to when Shaka Zulu was assassinated on September 22nd, 1828. Because of the significant role Shaka played in the historical sociocultural growth of South Africa, September 24th became a date set aside every year for South Africans to pay tribute to Shaka for uniting the Zulu clan and being a fearless warrior.
